Tim Ripley
Artist statement
Im interested in the relation between logic and ornamentation. The forms I create are systematized embellishments. While my color palette and emphasis on surface is decorative in nature, the structures and arrangements I create incorporate logical systems for pattern, color, and form.
My process involves creating sculptures that I photograph, digitally distort/embellish, print, and then reproduce by hand using oil on panel.
Some of my
influences and interests are: Andreas Gursky, Biology,
geometry, turds, worms, mold, bacteria, airbrushed model photos,
Hello Kitty stores, Hans Bellmer, pustules, digital modeling,
Philip Guston, spoon benders, Martin Puryear, internal
organs/anatomy, Ernst Haeckel, Lee Bontecou, etc.
